Fort Welikit Family Campground/RV Park is a relatively new addition in the Customer, SD region. It offers 100 sites that offer something for all tastes. While it may not have the name brand amenities like a nearby Sturgis RV park, it does have a lot of the features you'd expect at a stately campground. Its excellent location is a major plus. This is the ideal place to stay if you want to visit the Black Hills.
The Fort Welikit Family Campground, & RV Park are located along the scenic Norbeck Highway. This area is home to many amazing attractions. It is also a popular place for outdoor activities like skiing, fishing and golf. Hot Springs is the home of the Mammoth Site. This site has interesting information about the Pleistocene era. Hot Springs' Wind Cave is the only cave offering tours.
The campground offers many tent sites as well as a dog park, playground and small play area. A grass volleyball court is available as well. In addition to the obvious, the campground also has an overhead shelter, which is a nice touch. There is also an overhead showerhouse.
You will find a variety of amenities in the campground including a dog run, laundry facilities, and a dump site. Access to the free Wi-Fi service at the campground is also possible. While the Wi-Fi isn't the best, it's good enough to keep you connected while you're on the road. It might not work on all channels.
This park is close to many of the most popular attractions in the area, such as Badger Clark's historic site, Jewel Cave and Crazy Horse. This campground is also within walking distance to the main street of Custer. It makes it easy to get around the area. You can also ride the Crazy Horse bus from the park to get around if you're not in the mood to drive. It departs approximately every half hour.
Fort Welikit Family Campground has been the only local campground to be awarded a "Great Service Star", by the South Dakota Department of Tourism. The award is meant to recognize campgrounds that offer outstanding service and a range of amenities. The campground has a fully fenced dog area, a picnic table, as well as fire circles. It is also an ideal place for biking or hiking.
The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, which is held every year in the summer, can be found at the park. If you're in the area for the Sturgis rally, this is a fun place to stop, and the campground is a perfect basecamp for your adventures. You don't have to ride big bikes. There are plenty of hiking trails nearby and you can play the links at Black Bear Golf Course. The camp is also a popular location during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, so if you haven't booked your spot yet, you might want to act fast.
