A boondocking trip can be one of the best ways to go camping in your RV. It allows you to get close to nature while you enjoy your RV's comforts. However, there are a few important things to know before heading out on a boondocking trip. To protect yourself and your environment, you must know how to properly use precautions and rules.

The Leave No Trace principles are some of the most important rules for boondocking. You should leave your site in a better condition than when you found it. Also, you must not dump trash or keep your campfire lit. It is important to keep valuables hidden from the eyes of large animals like raccoons. To protect yourself when you come across wildlife, use pepper spray.

Smartly packing your RV is a smart idea. You should also pack an emergency kit, in addition to your essential tools and necessities. You should have water, food, and a first-aid kit. If you are required to leave your RV for the night, you will be able to store your supplies inside a storage box. Additionally, you should keep a spare wheel and windshield wipers.

If you intend to use solar power, make sure to charge them mid-day. Also, LED bulbs use less electricity than traditional bulbs.

For the duration of your stay, it is a good idea that you bring at least two trash bags. You should also bring a toad or bike to help you scout the area ahead. It can be a great way to locate a boondocking spot without having to drive too far. You should also check with park rangers for any regulations. If you don't have a toad, a car or truck can help you to scout the area.

Many boondocking spots are either pack-in/pack-out. You will need to empty all your trash before you can get to your destination. You may have to transport your trash to the dump station if you don't have enough room. Consider bringing a cargo vehicle to haul your trash to a dumpster.

You should ensure you have sufficient fuel supply if you are staying for a prolonged period. Also, you need to take into account how much water your RV needs. Although your RV may have a water tank it can be difficult filling it. You will need to refill your water tank from another source if it is full.
